Captain Memorial Dog Training Scholarship
Dog training scholarships for families who need a hand and dogs who deserve a chance.
In Captain's Memory
Captain was Bryan’s partner in life and work. During Bryan’s year of daily videos, The 365, people drove hundreds of miles to train with him, but the one they most hoped to meet was Captain. He’d greet them like an old friend, settle the room without trying, and make hard work feel lighter. He hiked our trails, tucked himself under brewery tables, photobombed more than a few shots, and pulled a laugh out of the worst days. He was the dog everyone wanted, and somehow, he was ours. When we lost him, the house kept all his shapes; the bed in the den, the empty spot on the porch, and the quiet got very loud.
Captain changed our life. This fund carries his love forward by providing custom Board & Train scholarships, built around each dog and the family who loves them.
Every dog deserves a real chance to thrive in their forever home. When cost blocks access to professional training, loving families face impossible choices and good dogs lose stability. The Captain Scholarship removes that barrier with comprehensive, individualized programs and real follow-through, keeping dogs with their people. With your help, more families get the dog they hoped for, and more dogs keep the family they already have.

Apply or Nominate
Know a family whose dog needs professional help but cost is a barrier? You can apply for your own dog or nominate another family. We review all applications monthly and reach out to discuss next steps.
Application Process
Our application covers everything we need to understand your situation and create the most effective training plan. We ask about your dog's specific challenges, your household dynamics, and your commitment to follow through with the program.
The process is straightforward but thorough. We want to set both you and your dog up for long-term success.
Transparency
We believe donors deserve clear proof of impact. That’s why we publish semiannual (twice-yearly) transparency reports, protecting recipient privacy while showing exactly what your gifts made possible.
What we share every six months (Jan–Jun and Jul–Dec):
  • Recipient initials and case profiles
  • Board & Train days funded and services delivered
  • Any carryover funds and next-period goals
We keep administrative overhead lean so more dollars go straight to training. Our semiannual reports make it easy to see where donations went and the results they achieved. Prefer it by email? Opt in at checkout and we’ll send the report when it’s published.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the most common questions we receive about The Captain Scholarship program. Don't see your question answered? Contact us directly.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Currently, no. Donations are processed by The Academy for Canine Behavior and Training (LLC). 501(c)(3) formation is in progress and we'll notify donors when tax-deductible status becomes available.
How do you choose recipients?
We review applications monthly, prioritizing families facing surrender risk, safety concerns, demonstrated need, ability to follow through, and location within our service area.
What training methods do you use?
We’re balanced trainers. We build behavior with rewards and set limits with calm, consistent guidance. Any tools are introduced thoughtfully, fitted properly, and used under professional supervision.
What if a case needs longer care?
We adjust training plans as needed. If a dog requires additional time beyond the initial program, we may co-fund extra days when resources allow, always prioritizing the best outcome.
Can I sponsor an entire month?
Absolutely! Contact us to discuss funding a complete scholarship or setting up corporate matching programs. Larger gifts help us plan ahead and say yes to more families.
Where are you located?
We serve families within a reasonable radius of our training facility in Tupelo, MS. Contact us to confirm whether your location falls within our service area for scholarship consideration.
Will you post updates about my dog?
Yes, with care. As a condition of the scholarship, recipients agree to a basic public update so our community can see the impact. You choose the format. Humans are always opt-in.
We never share last names, addresses, or identifying personal details, and we get written media consent first. Updates may appear in occasional social media posts, program highlights, and in our semiannual transparency reports (showing totals like dogs helped and days funded).
